Easter!!!!!


Okay, normally there won't be blog posts this often. I am thinking maybe 2 times a month? However often I go into the hives...Hopefully they will survive and so will this blog!
Today, after a wonderful church service and a scrumptious, fun, dinner at Omi and Popop's house, I came home and went in the hive. Atley and Addison were playing in the yard, with the little chickies that we hatched and Alex and Rick were cleaning the gutters out.









I am concerned they are going to swarm. They are hanging about the outside of the hive in big numbers at 8:00 am and temp @65 F. I am really unsure about what to do now. So, into the Alpha hive.




I see lots of bees in the top super when I open it up but appearances may be decieving becuase they clear out quick. I see the wax foundation beeing drawn out and a lot of it being taken. I haven't seen more wax taken then the last time I viewed though.





Middle super- LOTS of bees. No new brood and older capped brood shows new babes chewing their way out!!! So cute!!! New birth!!!



Bottom (only) deep- bees COVERING all the frames. There is one new frame in there and they are building it out. I see honey on the outermost right frame and it is HEAVY and white capped. That means, I think, it is ready...? I am such a novice... But why are they putting honey in the bottom deep??? Lots of frames full of pollen and nectar. Ha! I am able to recognize some things now. One year ago, forget it! And I used to be terrified to enter the hive but did it anyway.



So I don't think they have a queen. The deep had bees that appeared to be breaking down 2 queen supersede cells. And the super had a big queen cell on the bottom.

It's already July 2017!

It is already July but I am putting in the last quarter again. Maybe this is turning into a quarterly update!  This quarter included our family trip to the Outer Banks. It was so great to see everyone. Then we drove to Atlanta. And life in-between.  Wet suits were not even a necessity on this trip! Sunny days and warmer water! I even went swimming a couple of days! This house had an amazing kitchen and we served up heapfuls of food! And our good friend Erin, came to visit us from Florida. She was here for other reasons but we still were able to get together for lunch! Former students getting married! Yup, I'm feeling a little old! The setting was so beautiful! And he drove the entire way home from Atlanta and most of the way there! Gotta get in the historical and nature places when we are somewhere. This place had both. Roswell is one fun town. October 2015

October began with TKD testing. Atley tested for her senior blue belt and this was a tough one. I didn't know if she would be able to test but she practiced and practiced and she tested! The forms are very complicated and there is so much to remember. I am impressed with how hard she works and how well she does. A bit nervous walking into test.. Sparring well is also a big part of testing...  She passed!!!! We are studying Flying Creatures this year so I organized a trip for her class to a 700 acre environmental education preserve and they designed a class just for our group! Hands on and very educational. And Melissa and Karl came down for a visit for a few days! Melissa brought tons of her old costume jewlery to share with Atley. And Atley is making a doughnut costume for Halloween. We saw this on YouTube and I thought. "we can do this." Addison's 14!!! His birthday was so fun! Thank you everyone for the car...

Maine 2017

We took a trek up to Maine to visit Grammie and Grampy Meehan and then we went to the cottage and saw Aunt Amy and Emily and Lila.   Eating on the pier overlooking a bay. Then eating lobsters...  Baltimore airport!  Onto the rental car...  I LOVE this farm!! Atley noticed 2 fish in this picture! Can you see them? Did I mention I LOVE this farm! I LOVE my baby too!!
