Medieval Days

 So, I posted and then added but I still don't really have the hang of moving pictures! So, you can enjoy these photos and as you scroll down you can read about what is going on!

We have been studying World History this year using Sonlight Curriculum.  Some other  great families that we know are also studying the same timeframes so we decided to make a co-op. This is separate from our group writing, literature and science classes. We meet with 6 other families, once or twice a quarter.  In this co-op we have children divided into youngers, middles, and teens. Each group had different, yet similar activities. The purpose of the day was to have fun together doing some activities involving a timeframe we had all studied. Here we are building castles. There were 3 main types of castles so they got to work designing and eating! 

This was fun. I gave them supplies and they had to design a catapult and a crossbow.  The ammo was mini marshmallows! I had some directions on hand, just in case, but no one needed any. They came up with some very creative designs. 

Here we are making an "almoner". It was a common carry bag (purse). Comes from the word "alms" and many people used them. Actually a lot of interesting history here, but you'll have to read it to find out. 

Here is our station for the game "Fox and Geese". This is actually quite a good strategy game that involves a lot of thinking. 

And DRAMA! We got some poetry selections  for the teens and some for the younger ones. They chose a poem and then acted it out. They all decided roles and props and how to dramatize.   

Here are the young girls designing their catapults and crossbows!  It was so fun to see how creative these young minds are. They really think outside of the box. I know we will have an answer to the gas crisis (and other things) if we allow these young minds to  be creative!
