HUZZAH!!!

Huzzah! That was the very popular colonial cheer when the political tension was VERY high and the colonists were going to rebel against the King of England- the powerful government of the land.

We found the gunsmith. We learned all about "smithing" and guilds in Europe. This gunsmith was awesome and taught us many interesting things. Atley was very impressed with how spoons were made and would love to teach you.

We found lots of great trees to climb on. They are very old and very big. This one seemed to grow together. A special plant for the governor's mansion. Patrick Henry, one of my favorite people in history, lived here sometime after the Kings officials fled.

Here we are looking over the "Sunken Gardens" at the Wren house. The first college built in the country. It was close timing on the actual opening and Harvard may have that honor. Both originated as seminaries. There is a plaque on the wall behind that states Patrick Henry camped his troops here.

If you know Rick, you may know our "cow" joke! Dont go near it!!! It might KILL YOU!!!!

So we came here and studied US History up close and live. But alas, a biology test was still happening in Alex's class on Monday. Love the historic wallpaper in the hotel.

Here we are at the printers shop. I remember typesetting in high school! The typesetting ended during the 80's. Feeling dated....

We saw the sheep. So cute. After hanging around them for a while I can see why the bible and Jesus refer to sheep so much. This nice young colonist was showing Atley how children would find the cotten seeds and get them out. Atley is diligently getting one out. Then she showed us how to turn the wool and cotton into yarn.

Watching a reenactment of an actual even that took place here at the Raleigh Tavern. Sons of Liberty....need I say more? The buildings in this area are all identically replicated or original. The Raleigh Tavern had some interesting happenings. Can you imagine? War and rebellion brewing. And war is war. These were truly radical times.

And if you need a wig! Bring your cash and lots of it...Apparently, the upper class wore wigs. George Washington did not wear a wig.

Rick was enlisted to fight the British. Alex was enlisted earlier in the day and sworn in. BTW, many of the people as you walk around, are dressed to the time of 1775. When you chat with them they do not step out of character but talk to you as if you were living in that time. It really takes you back to the time period.

I LOVE this map. I like maps anyway but thought it was so cool. Notice how the states go west? I always wish I had lived back then.

Atley really thought this baby area was lovely. It really was lovely. Guess what building this was in! Yes, the Governor's palace. We saw so many places and buildings maybe I will add another post.

And a coffee shop in the campus of William and Mary College was just what we needed to end this day.
